MY COLD EMBRACE
“Hausgeist”
(self-financed)
Time: 35:19
Here we have the already fifth longplayer by German MY COLD EMBRACE. I remember their 2000s release “The First Day” which I found quite weak. So it's really surprising that these guys are still around and also come up with such a quality release. First of all, the sound is really good and professional. The music on “Hausgeist” varies between melodic death metal, old school death/ thrash and some hardcore/ crust riffs and rhythms. Here lies the danger of being mixed up with hundreds of metalcore bands that seem to have similar influences, without calling MY COLD EMBRACE metalcore. They are somehow different. I don't go conform with all ideas the guys have immortalized here. Some tracks are also a bit mediocre in my opinion, but then there are always cool twists and turns in the rather short songs that keep one's attention. Also the new singer is just great, having a brutal, diverse death metal voice. Highlights are “Ghost Of Our Suicide” and “Apollo”, being both quite melodic. There's also a huge multimedia bonus on the CD which adds to the overall professional impression.
